Job Description
We are seeking a part-time Senior Payroll Officer to take ownership of end-to-end payroll operations across multiple entities within our organisation. Reporting within the Internal Finance function, this role is responsible for the accurate, compliant and timely processing of payroll for approximately 250 employees, while providing payroll expertise and support to Finance and People & Culture. The position also plays an important role in supporting organisational changes, maintaining legislative compliance, and identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes and systems in a growing and evolving environment. Tuesdays are essential as our casual payroll is processed on this day; however, outside of Tuesdays we are flexible with working days and hours. The role can be structured as 3 full days per week or 5 shorter days equivalent to 3 full days, depending on what works best for the successful candidate.
Role Responsibilities:
Manage end-to-end payroll processing, including monthly payroll for approximately 250 employees across multiple entities and fortnightly casual payroll.
Process new starters, terminations and employee variations in collaboration with People & Culture.
Calculate wages, overtime, allowances, penalties and loadings in accordance with relevant Modern Awards and legislation.
Manage leave processing including annual leave, personal leave, parental leave and long service leave.
Prepare and reconcile payroll journals and provide accurate payroll data to support financial reporting.
Ensure compliance with Australian payroll legislation, including PAYG withholding, superannuation and payroll tax obligations.
Manage Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting and maintain compliant payroll records.
Produce payroll reports, reconciliations and analysis to support Finance and management reporting.
Respond to payroll queries from employees in a timely and professional manner.
Liaise with People & Culture and managers regarding employee changes and payroll impacts.
Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls and reporting efficiency.
Support payroll system enhancements and participate in finance or HR initiatives involving payroll processes.
Desired Skills and Experience

Minimum 3 years’ experience in end-to-end payroll processing.
Experience managing payroll for medium-sized organisations (200+ employees).
Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and Modern Awards.
Experience preparing payroll journals and reconciliations for finance reporting.
Experience managing STP reporting and statutory payroll obligations.
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel capability.
Experience with payroll and HR systems (experience with NetSuite and ELMO/KeyPay highly regarded).
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
High attention to detail and commitment to payroll accuracy.
Experience supporting payroll process improvements or system implementations (desirable).
