Job Description
About the role
We are looking for a Senior UI Design Engineer who sits at the intersection of design systems, front-end engineering, and UX quality - someone who can both make strong design decisions and build them in code.
This is not a pure engineering role and it is not a pure design role. It is for someone who has evolved through both, understands how design decisions become component APIs, and has strong instincts about what great UI looks and feels like at scale.
You will co-own the front-end architecture of our design system, build the component library that powers our entire product suite, and help define how design is expressed, governed, and adopted across the platform. You will also play a key role in shaping how AI-assisted workflows integrate with our system - making AI output reliable, consistent, and system-safe.
What you'll be doing
Build and maintain reusable UI components using Angular/React, with strong attention to UX quality and visual consistency
Make independent design decisions - layout, hierarchy, spacing, interaction - when working ahead of or alongside designers
Define and implement design tokens, theming systems, and visual standards from token definition through to component-level application
Ensure strong fidelity between Figma designs, Storybook, and production code
Co-own and evolve the design system across design and engineering, including governance, contribution models, and documentation
Extend and customise components in a controlled, scalable way
Integrate AI-assisted development tools into your workflow in a system-compliant and repeatable way
Contribute to the team's agentic design system infrastructure - agent skill files, context and constraint definitions, linting rules, and MCP integrations
Improve developer experience through clear APIs, sensible defaults, and good documentation
Partner closely with designers to shape interaction patterns, validate feasibility, and maintain design intent
Drive adoption by educating and supporting developers to self-serve within the system
Convert static UX to solid design system UI using agentic workflows
What success looks like
You make confident design decisions independently - not just implement what others define
Developers reuse components instead of re-implementing UI
Visual regressions and redlining decrease over time
Design changes move through the system predictably
AI-assisted workflows are reliable, system-safe, and genuinely speed up delivery
UI quality is consistent and intentional, regardless of who contributed it
Desired Skills and Experience
About you:
Strong background in both UI design and front-end engineering - comfortable and credible in both worlds
Proven ability to make independent design decisions: layout, typography, spacing, colour, hierarchy
Deep front-end engineering experience, Angular preferred
Experience building or owning a component library, not just contributing to one
Experience with design token architecture - primitive, semantic, and component layers
Demonstrated use of AI tools in a real development workflow - active use, not just awareness
Strong Figma skills and experience maintaining parity between design and production
Systems-thinking mindset with a pragmatic approach to abstraction and reuse
Strong collaboration skills with designers and engineers
Good to have
Experience with agentic or code-first design system workflows
Familiarity with MCP integrations or AI-assisted component generation pipelines
Experience with token management tooling
Storybook experience - ideally beyond component showcase, toward manifest and documentation use cases
Accessibility knowledge (WCAG)
